Living in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Austin is surrounded by a wealth of underground beauty. A series of caverns run throughout and this week my daughter’s class visited Inner Space Caverns which runs along the Balcones fault. Here is a peek down below…
Here is one of the most stunning views — this grows 1 cubic inch every century. How amazing is that?
After the paleontologists and other teams explored the caverns, these beautiful paintings were done to represent actual animal remains found in the digs. So cool…
And finally, here is my star spelunker. To me, she is the greatest view here or anywhere.
Check out other Sundays, above and below ground, over at my friend Unknown Mami‘s place.

oooh ahhhh. Sounds and looks like a magnificent place.
It really is awe-inspiring!

Wow, I never heard of this place despite living in Austin for 2 years. Looks great.
Next time, you’re in our neck of the woods, I’ll show you around.

Great shots. We have visited the caves in Pennsylvania however will look for yours when we get to Texas.
Please do! They really are exciting.

Wow! Those are amazing! We have a cavern near my one, but it isn’t nearly as beautiful as the one you posted about.
Have a wonderful week!
It is pretty amazing to me that such a treasure is so close to us!

Fascinating and terrifying to me at the same time.
It is a completely different world done there.

i haven’t been to the caverns since forever and i shamefully admit i’ve never taken my kids. will add this to the list of places to see in the spring.
You should! We can plan a day trip!

Now that is just super cool! I went to Carlsbad Caverns and Mammoth Cave as a child and never forgot it. I need to get to another one like you did.
Do! It’s really stunning look at the creation of our world!

Traci, I never knew that Austin had caverns. Just too cool. I will definitely put this on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing.
I have yet to try spelunking! Your posts just made me want to schedule a trip this year.

i really enjoyed your photos.
hope you have a great week ahead~

How amazing. Though I have been down several mines and caves I always do so reluctantly as the older I become the more claustrophobic I get.
It’s great to see pictures like this but I’m a feet on the ground person….
Have an inspiring week!
That looks amazing! We went to the Wonder World Caverns last summer, but a trip to the Inner Space Caverns is definitely in our future! These pictures are awesome!
Also, your daughter’s hair is gorgeous!
