An Open Letter to Rush Limbaugh
Most of you know that I don't usually write about politics here. But my heart won't let me pass on this. Please feel free to come back another day if this is not your cup of tea... Dear Mr. Limbaugh,My mother raised me with the Golden Rule so I will speak to you as I would like to be spoken.I am a stay-at-home Mom to two children and the wife of an Air Man, hardly a "Femi-Nazi" as you so eloquently coined us. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for seventeen years. And as a couple who have had their share of financial hard days and a woman who had two very difficult pregnancies, I have used birth control for the majority of those years. We consider this being responsible. And as my husband is an employee of the Department of Defense, and therefore a government employee, he is insured as a part of his employment compensation. Birth control is covered in that policy. Despite being a government employee and despite tax payer input into said compensation, you do not "pay (me) to have sex". I am not a "slut" and I am not a "prostitute".But I really don't want to talk about birth control. What I want to discuss is human decency. Miss Fluke did nothing to you other than express an opinion different than yours. You may disagree with her feelings on the subject. Wonderful. That is the beauty of this amazing country. You are obviously able to express yourself and if you wanted to explain (or even rant) why you disagree with the facts or opinions she expressed, I might have disagreed but I would not be writing this post. But you did not do that. You chose to insult and degrade a young woman whom you do not know. Your attacked her character in a very vile manner and why? Did she call you out? No. Did she insult you? No. She simply spoke up and exercised her 1st amendment right to express her opinion.I will always defend your right to speak freely. I don't have to like what you say to do that. And I will not insult you for those views. I would only ask that you do the same. And if you cannot, I would call upon everyone to exercise their right to condemn words of such cruelty and vitriol. Male, female, Republican, Democrat, it matters not. This is not a political issue. It is not a religious issue. It is an issue of respect.I write this with the utmost courtesy, something you did not observe. If, however, you would like to call me out as you did Miss Fluke, my name is Traci Shannon. And my parents are very proud of me.Sincerely,A Mom, A Wife, A User of Birth Control
