What's Happening -- Mom's Night Out Review and Giveaway (CLOSED)
Hey Moms! Feeling overwhelmed? Feeling under-appreciated? Feeling like you would be a different person if you could just have one night to yourself?Well, for me the answer to all three questions is a loud and enthusiastic "yes!"And that's what Mom's Night Out is about. The moment when you realize that although you love you children, love your husband, wanted to be a mom, maybe even wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, it just doesn't feel like enough. Or it feels like too much. Whichever, you need a break.
Allyson (played very nicely by Sarah Drew) is much like me, in fact my husband turned to me and said, "did you write this?" She tries her hand at blogging and cleans frantically at night when the anxiety takes over. She tries to embrace the chaos of life with small children but finds it hard. She really, really, really needs night out.
Been there, done that.
The plot set up his simple. Overwrought mom needs night out. She joins gal pals Izzy (Andrea Logan White) and Sondra (Patricia Heaton -- playing double duty as producer) for a dress-up, hair done, high heels kind of night. They leave the kids with the dads (including the endearing Sean Astin) -- so, what could go wrong? As I'm sure you guessed just about everything. Allyson's Groupon to the snobby restaurant doesn't work out. There is a brilliant conversation over what "next" means as in "next Saturday", I have actually had that exact debate. The youngest child gets caught in the pick a toy machine. And somebody brought a baby to a tattoo parlor. In the end, however, Allyson is reminded that what she does is valuable and valued. Personally, this old mom liked that. The film also makes a statement on how hard we moms can be on ourselves and on others. Allyson feels less than next to many of her friends and judges herself harshly. Yet she looks down on her sister-in-law (Abbie Cobb) - a single mom struggling with a baby and making ends meet. After the crazy misadventures, they both have a different perspective on each other and themselves. There is definitely a sense that motherhood is valued in this film.I enjoyed "Mom's Night Out". It was a sweet and silly romp that reminded me of "Adventures in Babysitting". The story winds through cockney driven cabs and bowling alleys, high-end restaurants and police stations while the moms track lost babies and biker gangs.
It was definitely family-friendly and my daughter enjoyed it as much as I. It is a good choice for a family movie night. If you'd like to win a copy of the Blu-ray/DVD pack, enter my giveaway. As so many of us moms need a break, I will make it easy. To enter just leave a comment stating why you would like a night out. Don't worry Dads can enter, too. The giveaway runs from 09/09 to 09/15.
