Even if we don’t know it at the time.⁣

Today is National Brothers and Sisters Day, so I’m sharing this photographic evidence in all its 1970s glory. Besides me, is my brother Will wearing tiger overalls for reasons unknown, especially at Christmas, and my youngest brother Daryl who is about 8 months here.⁣

All opinions are mine. It is my Universe, after all.

Many of you know we lost Will almost 25 years ago so these pictures are more special than ever. This is the legacy I have to share with my children. I tell them daily that while they don’t see each other as ales now, they have no idea how much darker the world will feel without them.⁣

The truth is I think of my brothers daily. Will is frozen at 20 in my mind but very alive in the facial expressions of my son. My brother Daryl is very alive and has grown my family by growing his and making me "Aunt Traci". He and the rest of his family are, however, away in quarantine, just as we are. I miss him, as well, but in a very different way.

The brilliance of these special days -- and I hear you when you say, "does everything have a day?" You and I both know the answer to that. "Yes. Yes, they do." -- but I digress, the brilliance of these days is that sometimes we do need a reminder. Among all the ice cream days and pizza days (which are very important in my books!) are days like today celebrating the relationships we need most in our lives.

A big thank you to National Day and Top Agency for giving me the gift of memory. My brothers were always a gift, I just didn't always see it.

Tell me about your brothers or sisters. And if you didn't get one through birth, share a memory about a brother from another mother (or sister from another mister - LOL)
