Remove From Play

Sports are an important part of growing up. Even this very non-sporty girl knows that. They provide physical activity, emotional growth, and hopefully, a lot of fun. Sometimes, however, that fun comes with risk, namely concussions. While we are not on a team currently with all our travels, both my kids have participated in group sports. Some included those with concussion potential. As a mom, it is really important to me that we do all we can to ensure their safety. No kid wants to be taken out of the game but the risks of a young athlete "playing  through the pain" have shown themselves to be tremendous and potentially lifelong. That's why I am sharing the Remove From Play test. It is a passion project of a woman I respect greatly Maria Bailey. Her enthusiasm was inspiring and I knew it was something I wanted to stand behind. The RFP test is a new way to provide timely and accurate screenings on the spot to determine if the player should be removed from play. "The test can be administered by parents and coaches in minutes ... Remove From Play Testing has particular relevance to: football, hockey, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, rugby, baseball, softball, cheerleading, and all other contact and collision activities." -- from the RFP Team Mom Playbook. The playbook is a tool to assist in helping teams bring this affordable test to their school or team. When I say affordable, I'm talking $5 a team member! The test eliminates pressure from team members, coaches/trainers, and even the athlete to return to play if hurt. Nobody has to be the bad guy -- the test is the decider. I really, REALLY like that!Another reason I am excited about RFP -- it is a veteran-owned company. As a wife of a vet, I love supporting companies that are utilizing the unique talents and skills vets bring to the table. And boy does it!  Charlie Felker and Don Carducci are two West Point graduates and combat veterans that conducted seven tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. Seven tours! They developed some serious experience with head injuries. Having seen it on the battlefield, they wanted to help our athletes on the playing field. Wow! Just wow!We may not all have children in these or any team sports but we all benefit from keeping our next generation safe. If you want to learn more about the Remove From Play program and theKing-Devick test, you can check them out here and the demonstration video here. My readers know I wouldn't share if I didn't think this was really worth their time. The playbook offers form letters and petitions to bring RFP to your school or team.

RFP Testing and The KING-DEVICK Test intend to CHANGE North American

sports programs by becoming the standard in concussion detection

FOREVER.

I hope you will check out the RFP Test site and give them a little Twitter and FB love! Thanks!
