Let's Take a Cup of Kindness

The new year always brings an almost overwhelming dose of nostalgia for me. I admit to being a complete and utter fool for the "out with old and in with the new". This year, however, has brought this feeling to a new level. 2016 had some wonderful moments but I can't help but feel like it also revealed so much anger, fear, and frustration in many. This includes beloved friends and family. I am, therefore, committed to making 2017 a year of kindness and friendship, openness and hope.

Let's take a cup of kindness in 2017

Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne.

For Auld Lang Syne, my dear, for auld lang syne,We'll drink a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne.

kindness, friends, auld lang syne, new yearAuld lang syne is roughly translated to good old times or days. The song is a melancholy reminder at the beginning of a new year to not forget old friends. Or as Sally pondered, maybe to not forget that we forgot.Either way, I am choosing to remember all those who have touched my life. Thank you for all you have given me. Thank you for making me the person I am.

I keep thinking about taking that cup of kindness. This is my one resolution for the year. Unfortunately, I can't blink my eyes and erase the unpleasantness of 2016 (where's Samantha when you need her?) However, I can commit to being kinder. I can open my heart to loving and respecting those with whom I cannot agree. We can all share that cup of kindness. There is room enough for kindness and love at any table and space enough to realize that we are less different than we are alike.I'll take a cup of kindness with you. Will you take it with me?

For what are you hoping in 2017? For me, I wish you all  a year filled with joy and free from fear. God bless.
