Nurse. Mother. Hero.

When the words fail, a picture says it all.⁣

It’s National Nurses Day. I am celebrating my friend and nurse, @_sarahbockstahler. Despite being very pregnant, she has continued to don her mask and help others through their worst days. She then flies home to swoop up her toddler and give him the best of days.⁣

As amazing as she is, she represents so many who do the same. You’ve heard the phrase, “not all heroes wear capes”. As far as I’m concerned, a good deal of them wears scrubs.⁣

I am staying home and watching endless hours of Netflix while testing the limits of Amazon ordering. Nurses and other brave medical professionals go out and fight the very thing I am avoiding. You know, avoiding the plague -- literally.

I have spent more than a few nights in hospitals. I have experienced the grace that nurses can bring into a room, lightening my load and easing my pain. And that was without a pandemic in play.

Right now, nurses are the ones who hold hands and say prayers as often as they set up IV fluids, and give shots. They bring babies into the world and help others cross over when hospitals limit visitors. They bring iPads to bedsides allowing face-to-face communication between loved ones and create parades for exiting patients who have returned to health.

Thanks to all of them. Thank you for your care, courage, and commitment. That said, thank you seems to pale in the face of you literally saving the world.⁣ Nonetheless, you have my gratitude Today and every day.
